Elsie & Jesus find support through Esfuerzo
When Elsie arrived at Congreso in 2016, she was lost and alone.
“I felt like a newbie. I didn’t know where to go to help me understand the situation I was going through,” said Elsie.
“Esfuerzo served me as an example. Never before have I taken medicine, thought about taking care of my health, shared time with friends and social workers,” she continued.
At Congreso, the HIV-Esfuerzo program provides HIV education & prevention services, HIV rapid-testing, support groups, and case management services to the community.
Medgina, one of Esfuerzo’s Medical Case Manager, has seen Elsie grow over the years and is proud of how far she’s come.
“Even through navigating all the things that may come through in life… family death, financial issues… she has preserved and handled everything maturely and with our support.”
Elsie not only gained community and support when she needed it most, but she also found a life-long partner of over 10 years in Jesus – also a member of Congreso’s HIV-Efuserzo program.
